On the album you will also find works by Fryderyk Chopin himself transcribed for marimba, vibraphone, and bells – original and unusual instruments for the composer’s music. The pieces featured on the album are a carefully selected mix of compositions by Fryderyk Chopin and of works inspired by his music: together they constitute one tale.
‘Chopin’s music has always been very close to us...’
Tomasz has been fascinated by Chopin’s music for a very long time. Its spontaneous sound, ‘freshness,’ and extraordinary craftsmanship is a kind of ultimate ideal for every Polish composer. Jakub, on the other hand, began his musical journey by learning to play the piano – it was Chopin’s music that accompanied his first steps. To Jakub, the artist’s pieces have sentimental value, very important for both his individual and artistic development.
It was Jakub’s musical sentiment and Tomasz’s compositional ideals that inspired this project, imbued with the genius of the greatest Polish composer’s music.
The material recorded on the album has Chopinesque ‘pure emotion’ to it. The unique arrangements and works inspired by Fryderyk Chopin’s music in a never-before-seen version make the sound fresh and spontaneous.
‘Chopin – Alter Ego’ is a project created by the Arnold & Frączek Percussion Duo
The Duo, inspired by a common desire to discover the heritage of Polish music, undertook an endeavour the capstone of which – in the form of a CD – you are now able to enjoy. The ‘Chopin – Alter Ego’ project began over a year and a half ago, and its conceptual seed was a collection of for percussion duo composed by Tomasz Arnold, each based on a different musical form from the output of Fryderyk Chopin.
